Working in New Zealand

In order to work as a physiotherapist in New Zealand you must first be registered with the Physiotherapy Board of New Zealand.

Physiotherapists Registration – Overseas Qualified Physiotherapists

Overseas qualified physiotherapists under Section 12(2) of the HPCA Act 2003.
* The application fee is NZ $1,200.00 (non-refundable)
* This is a legal process – aimed at protecting the public of New Zealand. Therefore, the Board
will only grant registration to physiotherapists it considers competent and fit to practise.
* There is no accreditation of overseas courses. Each application is individually assessed.
* The information required is extensive and there is no guarantee of registration.
* The onus is on the applicant to provide all the information required.
* Errors and omissions will cause significant delays.

The Physiotherapy Board recommends that overseas qualified physiotherapists wanting to work in New Zealand should first check their eligibility to be registered to work here. Visit the Physiotherapy Board website http://www.physioboard.org.nz, view the criteria and competencies required for registration in New Zealand and undertake a self-assessment. This exercise and applying for registration should take place before applying to emigrate to, seek employment in or arrange travel to New Zealand.
